Fix Wi-Fi connection issues in Windows
When I try to connect to WiFi, it tells me to « Enter the network security key » because « Some information changed since the last time you connected.
We need additional information to complete the connection. I repeatedly checked the WiFi password and confirmed that it is the one which all my other devices, including another Lenovo Thinkpad laptop, are running on. The computer is able to connect to a public WiFi network. It is also able to connect to my WiFi network if I tell it to « Forget » the network, restart the computer, and then connect to the network by pressing the button on the router.
I believed this is called WPS and it automatically sends the password to my computer. Then the computer cannot reconnect after a restart or shutdown. I can see the password saved in the computer settings but it doesn’t matter.
I have to tell it to « Forget, » restart, and set up again with the button. I ran several troubleshooters with no results, and also confirmed that all my drivers are up to date. I’ve also reinstalled Windows since this started happening, due to other issues related to the system board being replaced. I ran some commands in the command prompt that were suggested to fix network connection issues. Unfortunately, they had no effect and the network connection issue remains.
Please can you help me narrow down the cause of this problem and possible solutions? I’ve seen some forums suggest uninstalling and reinstalling a network adapter, but I don’t know how to do that and it sounds risky to me. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you very much for the prompt reply and detailed instructions. Before I start, could you please explain to me what the software is that you are asking me to install if I end up having to uninstall the network adapter and where you got it?
You sent a link which goes straight to a download, and I want to make sure I know what I’m doing with my computer. I was about to start with trying the fixes you recommended when I noticed that, if I bring it right next to the router, the computer does connect automatically now. I also ran some Lenovo updates from Lenovo Vantage, but they made no difference. It can connect automatically if it’s next to the router, but needs to be right next to it and sometimes drops the connection if I move too far away.
I have another Lenovo Thinkpad which has no difficulty connecting from the short distance between my router and my desk, and does not drop the connection easily.
Will the fixes you sent me solve this issue? Does the fact that it does this now change any of your advice? I looked in the Device Manager and I don’t know what you are asking me to uninstall. Please can you tell me what these things are? What should I try to roll back to an earlier version?
What will happen if I uninstall my network adapter and then can’t re-install it? I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.
This sounds risky. Lenovo Support told me previously to download and install this:. I think the network reset has improved the performance of the WiFi in connecting. It is not quite as good as it originally was, but definitely much better than it was before resetting the network. It’s also been working consistently now, rather than erratically. I am guessing that the software was updated when my computer was repaired and that this version may simply not work as well.
Hopefully on the next software update it will improve still further. I’m holding on to the other instructions in case things get worse. Thank you again for all your help. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
